SLUK Fireball Vespa PX screen

£160.00

**NEW FOR VESPA PX SUMMER 2022**

Our Vespa Fireball (and Lambretta XL5) screens were inspired by the original café racer Biemme screens from the 1960s. However, we’ve updated many aspects of the original design, shape and fitment to bring it firmly into the 21st century.

In order to fit the Vespa PX we’ve had to rethink the way this screen is mounted (the PX headset doesn’t lend itself to the usual clamp band we use). The screen has also been trimmed slightly differently to ensure clearance between the headlight bottom and legshields.

The original Biemme screens were made from 2mm plastic. Ours are made from 4mm acrylic-coated ABS material and come in a choice of high gloss black, white, silver, satin black or carbon effect and can be painted to match your scooter for that bespoke look.

Does it do anything?

It improves aerodynamics, speed and riding comfort simply by deflecting some of the wind that would normally hit you in the chest. You should expect 1 or 2 mph improvement in top speed as a result. This is cheap and effective tuning. Also, the screen provides a place behind which you may hide additional instruments or a GPS unit without spoiling the look of your scooter.

Assembly

There is a minor bit of home assembly required, the clear ‘cockpit’  and laser-cut stainless trim (peel off the backing paper if you want a polished finish to your trim, or use the other way up for a matt finish) needs attaching to the main part of the screen using the supplied 7 stainless steel bolts and nyloc nuts. The metal trim sits on top of the clear cockpit.

Fitting

The screen comes complete with quality laser cut, hand-shaped stainless steel fittings and brackets.

  • To fit, firstly insert the threaded grub screws into the four cast holes under the PX headset (you’ll see that the brackets align with the holes, they are ‘Left’ and ‘Right’ see images for correct orientation). If the threads are tight in your headset run a tap down them first, or spray with WD-40
  • Fix the brackets onto the screen loosely using the 12mm long flanged nuts from the outside of the screen (no washers needed so ignore those on the video) and the 6mm nylock nuts
  • Slide the brackets onto the dowels and finger tighten the nylock nuts
  • Ease the screen up and over the headlight rim
  • The rubber ‘vibration killer’ inside the top lip of the screen acts to minimise vibration and also protect the paint on your headset – if you’re worried about marking your paint cover other areas it may touch with electrical tape before fitting
  • Once the screen is in place you can adjust it by hand to make sure it sits straight then fasten the nuts and bolts tightly

Need extra clearance?

Due to the way the legshields sit very close to the headset on these models, and because many of them have worn steering stops, the screen may just rest against the top of the leg shields on full lock (even without the screen many older Vespa headlights will touch the legshields). If yours does you may just need to trim the screen slightly at home to clear it. Trimming is quick and easy with either a Dremel or hand file, the coloured finish is part of the plastic, rather than a coating so don’t be worried about it if you’re taking some material off.
